The situation

What has happened

The surveying team is re-establishing the boundaries and pegging lots 31 to 42 at the Brightwater Stage 3 subdivision in Coomera on 16 September under the direction of the registered surveyor, Anika Sorensen. The site is a live civil construction site with a haul road used by water trucks and excavators, and a near miss involving a survey assistant and a reversing truck was recorded last week. Before the day you must gather the title and plan information from the job file, check the total station and GNSS equipment, and on the day you will set up the instrument, record observations and reductions and place and reference the pegs. A spotter is required for any work within ten metres of the haul road.

Your brief. Prepare the survey information and equipment, complete the site induction and traffic controls, support the field survey by operating the instrument, recording observations and computing simple reductions, place and reference the pegs and record the job and any hazard correctly.

What to look for

Evidence guide

Check the equipment check is genuine and recorded, that the traffic controls reflect the near miss, that observations are recorded legibly with instrument heights and checks, that computations close within tolerance and that discrepancies with the plan are reported to the surveyor rather than resolved by the assistant. The job and any hazard must be recorded in the right systems.

The student's evidence summary lists every record they created or changed in the systems named above, their notes and the tasks they ticked. Verify it against the deliverables and your own assessment tool.
