Work Health and Safety Policy
v2.5
Purpose. States Vantage's commitment to the health and safety of its office, field, cleaning, security and surveying staff and of the tenants, residents and visitors on the properties it manages.
1.Commitment
Vantage will provide a safe workplace and safe systems of work so far as is reasonably practicable, as required by the Work Health and Safety Act 2011. The business recognises that its people work alone in vacant properties, at night in commercial buildings, in confrontations at access points and on live construction sites, and will plan for those risks.
2.Key risks
The principal hazards across the group are lone and offsite work, manual handling, cleaning chemicals, slips on wet floors, working at height on ladders, aggression and violence towards security and property staff, driving between sites, fatigue on night shifts, and traffic and plant on survey sites. Each division must keep its risk register current for these hazards.
- Lone and offsite work: check-in system and safe entry procedure
- Chemicals: register, safety data sheets, training and PPE
- Aggression: de-escalation training, duress alarms and two-person response
- Driving: fleet maintenance, fatigue limits and no phone use
- Survey sites: site induction, high visibility clothing and traffic plans
3.Responsibilities
The General Manager must resource this policy and review safety performance monthly. Department managers must implement the procedures, provide training and investigate incidents in their division. Every worker must follow procedures, use the equipment provided, report hazards and incidents and must not put themselves or others at risk.
4.Consultation
Workers are consulted through team meetings, the monthly WHS committee with a representative from each division, shift handovers and toolbox talks on cleaning and security sites. Casual staff have the same right to raise safety concerns as permanent staff.
5.Incident reporting
All injuries, near misses, hazards, threats and assaults must be reported in the incident register within the shift or the working day. Notifiable incidents will be reported to Workplace Health and Safety Queensland by the General Manager.
6.Review
This policy will be reviewed each year, after a notifiable incident or when the business takes on a new type of work.
